Post Helene Updates, aka, LATE Breaking News

Have you ever heard the expression, "OBE?" I was a contractor working in DC with many retired military and it seems that when our deadlines were pushed because of things outside of our control, I heard "OBE (overcome by events)" frequently. That's how I feel about trying to catch up with our club news. I intended to blog during and immediately after the ESAA Nationals in September. That week, we had out of town guests who left the day Helene rolled into WNC. We were then without power and water for 9 days. Once the power came back, I was busy with our church ladies making blankets for displaced victims of the hurricane, followed by an unexpected trip to assist family members in a medical emergency. Since our club members are so active with their setters, it is safe to say, ALOT has happened since the prior post. I am back now and ready to take up the mantle. Thankfully, many of our club members are active on Facebook where I was able to "mine" much of the content in this update - we can probably call it "Late Breaking" CCESC news. Before I dive into club updates, I want to thank so many of our members who have posted informative news and videos on the aftermath of Helene. Though we are more than a month out, there is so much devastation still visible and it will take a long time for some areas to regain a sense of normalcy. We live in WNC and have driven through some of the areas greatly affected - Asheville, Swannanoa, Black Mountain, Old Fort, Burke and McDowell Counties and are aware of much more in our surrounding area that we have not yet ventured out to. It is good to remember the ongoing work and needs of those in affected areas. It has been heartening to see the vast resources from all over the country and government agencies which have come together to help residents. Seeing neighbors helping neighbors has been uplifting as well. WNC STRONG, we continue to support relief and recovery.
Now comes the fun stuff . . .

GCH Aerden 'N' Esthete's Ulysses BN RA NAJ NF CGC TKI, bred by Laurie Engel and Rose Miller owned and handled by his owner, Jill Warren, at last week’s 2024 ESAA National. Jill is not a member of the CCESC, but this photo of Ulysses was too good not to snatch. It really serves to illustrate the versatility of our breed.

I am just now getting around to recapping our National since life took a decided left turn.
At the ESAA Hunt Test Twister got a Master pass and Missy and Handsome got Junior passes.
Twister didn't do anything in GunDog Sweeps but his daughter Ellie was Best in Sweeps and his son Seger from a different litter was BOS in Sweeps.
In agility, Kenya was HIT with owner Sue Johnson.
Our real highlight was Monty winning Best in Futurity from the 6-9 class, owned by the Pfeiffer's.
In sweepstakes, Missy won her class and her litter sister was fourth.
In the regular classes, Monty won the 6-9 class, Seger was 2nd in 9-12, Handsome was 3rd in BBE-A. In bitches, Jett won the 9-12 class and Missy was fourth. Ellie (sired by Twister) won the Hunting Class and ultimately an AOM.
Lola was third in the Brood Bitch handled by River.
We also racked up some Annual Awards. Taser won the BBE dog award while his littermate Lance won Winners Dog. Twister won the Stud Dog award while Tiki won the Brood Bitch award. We also got a very nice check from ESAA for having both parents fully health tested with CHIC numbers as breeders of Best in Futurity.
So proud to be breeders of beautiful talented dogs! Thanks to the many owners for bringing out their best.

So with all the mess in the mountains, I forgot to post about the national. Poppy made the cut out of over 100 other champions in the best of Breed ring. The kids did really well in juniors and Platty and Hickory were in the ribbons of their very large classes. A good time was had by all!
